Land Song

An ongoing work in progress, this series aims to untangle the complicated emotions arising from continuously returning to the landscape of one's past. I am turning the camera onto myself and my mother, who gave birth to me in the house she still lives in now - the house I grew up in and still return to often. The familiar land of home is the stage for this intimate narrative, conjuring a tender balance between curiosity and tension, light and dark, mirroring the conflicting feelings that can occur upon returning to the spaces of one’s childhood. Here, I collaborate with both my mother and the land to unravel our long-standing connection with the landscape. Land Song chooses to reveal both the nurturing and darker undertones of kin and landscape, the peripheries of the space where our memories are held, and reminds us of our temporality.
